How Much Does Rug Cleaning Cost Per Square Metre?

Rug cleaning is priced differently to fitted carpets, since rugs come in so many different sizes. Here’s how the pricing actually works.

The formula

Rug cleaning costs R130 per square metre. To work out your rug’s price, you multiply its length by its width to get the area in square metres, then multiply that by R130.

Worked examples

A small 1.5m x 1m rug is 1.5m², which comes to R195.
A medium 2m x 3m rug is 6m², which comes to R780.
A larger 3m x 4m rug is 12m², which comes to R1,560.

Why area-based pricing makes sense for rugs

Unlike fitted carpet, which is priced per room regardless of exact size, rugs vary hugely — from small entrance mats to large living-room rugs covering many square metres. Pricing by area means you pay in proportion to the actual size of your rug, rather than a flat per-item rate that wouldn’t be fair for very large or very small rugs.

What affects the final price

The per-m² rate covers standard rug cleaning. Rug material and construction — wool, synthetic, flatweave, tufted and so on — can affect the most suitable cleaning approach, and heavily soiled rugs or those with stubborn staining may need extra treatment.
