How Professional Carpet Cleaners Deal With Stubborn Stains

Stains are one of the main reasons homeowners book a professional carpet clean, so it’s worth understanding how they’re actually handled — and being honest about what can and can’t be fully removed.

Every stain is assessed individually

Rather than treating the whole carpet the same way, visible stains — coffee, food spills, mud, everyday traffic marks and more — are identified and pre-treated individually before the main clean begins. This targeted approach gives problem areas the extra attention they need.

Why some stains respond better than others

How well a stain responds to treatment depends on a few factors: the substance that caused it, the carpet fibre type, how long the stain has been there, and whether it’s been treated (or mistreated) before. A fresh spill is generally easier to fully lift than something that’s set in over months or years.

Being upfront about permanent staining

Some stains can be permanent depending on the substance, carpet fibre, age of the stain and previous treatments. We’d rather tell you this upfront than promise guaranteed removal we can’t back up. On arrival, we can give you a realistic view of what to expect from a specific stain.

What you can do before we arrive

If you’re dealing with a stain before your appointment, avoid rubbing it vigorously or using unknown home remedies, which can sometimes set a stain further into the fibres. Blotting gently and leaving it for professional treatment is generally the safer option.
